This study will follow 27 tree planters in British Columbia over two planting seasons to examine how exposure to wildfire smoke affects their lung health. By measuring lung function and collecting health data before and after work shifts, and before and after the planting season, researchers aim to understand the impact of smoke on those doing physically demanding outdoor work.
Tree planters working near wildfire-prone areas will wear air quality monitors and collect samples themselves throughout the season. This research will help identify health risks and inform protective measures for workers regularly exposed to wildfire smoke.
